I love the Finlay Donovan series! It has a Thelma and Louise vibe (without the cliff) and is very fun, about an author who is mistakenly ID'd as a hitwoman.
I loved the Magpie Murders series. But for like a really young amateur sleuth, The Things We Don't See by Savannah Brown 100%. And congrats again, Elizabeth!
I forwarded to my ma. She’s 86 and loves mysteries. I would write a comedy version taken place at her senior complex in Florida. The stories from my ma are hilarious. Love the backbone of this series. Respect the seniors!
I saw Alan Bradley’s Flavia de Luce mysteries described as “Ramona Quimby in a quaint English town, as told by Shirley Jackson” which sold me on picking up book one.
I like a mystery with good characters which is why I like the Thursday Murder Club series. The main characters aren't the typical young, beautiful, and perfect sorts. They are aging, funny, quirky, a bit obsessive, sometimes cranky, but entirely believable. Agatha Christie was always a favorite because her main characters were presented in a way that made them feel like someone you know or have met before.
Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear-- WWI nurse with psychology training becomes detective. Murders but little gore. Best to read in order because of relationships. 1920’s Britain.
I love the seniors, each a character! I can't decide if I love Elizabeth or Joyce more.
I couldn’t choose! Their friendship is so lovely and Joyce really comes into her own in this one.

One of my faves. And we’re getting a Vero novella
And his season on Taskmaster (can be viewed on YouTube) is really fun!
Ooohh
Great interview! My first favorite amateur detective was Trixie Belden. She inspired my love of a good whodunit!
Trixie!

I love Antony Horowitz. Will check out the other one.

They’re just all so great.

I’ve been saving these for some sort of break glass situation
This is my favorite series! I never thought I could fall for a group of elderly odd balls but they have me hooked!
I wish I could meet them.

They’re so real. Flawed and lovable
Such a great interview! These books are going on my TBR list.
My favorite amateur detective is Lord Peter Wimsey by Dorothy L. Sayers. The ne plus ultra of Golden Age gentleman detectives.
Love Peter Wimsey!
My recommendation is the Thursday murder club series. These are the perfect books and I’m obsessed with them.
Excellent choice
My love for mysteries, and indeed my love of books, began with Donald Sobol's "Encyclopedia Brown."
I think I imprinted on these too

I’ve read about half of these. Need to return.
The classic amateur sleuth is Nancy Drew and there are 175 books in the series.
And I have read all of them!
the Flavia de Luce series is wonderful, especially as audiobooks!
Always on the hunt for a good audiobook
Finlay Donovan is Killing it!!
So much fun!
