I love the seniors, each a character! I can't decide if I love Elizabeth or Joyce more.

I couldn’t choose! Their friendship is so lovely and Joyce really comes into her own in this one.

I love the Finlay Donovan series! It has a Thelma and Louise vibe (without the cliff) and is very fun, about an author who is mistakenly ID'd as a hitwoman.

I forwarded to my ma. She’s 86 and loves mysteries. I would write a comedy version taken place at her senior complex in Florida. The stories from my ma are hilarious. Love the backbone of this series. Respect the seniors!

They’re just all so great.

I saw Alan Bradley’s Flavia de Luce mysteries described as “Ramona Quimby in a quaint English town, as told by Shirley Jackson” which sold me on picking up book one.

I like a mystery with good characters which is why I like the Thursday Murder Club series. The main characters aren't the typical young, beautiful, and perfect sorts. They are aging, funny, quirky, a bit obsessive, sometimes cranky, but entirely believable. Agatha Christie was always a favorite because her main characters were presented in a way that made them feel like someone you know or have met before.

Such a great interview! These books are going on my TBR list.

My favorite amateur detective is Lord Peter Wimsey by Dorothy L. Sayers. The ne plus ultra of Golden Age gentleman detectives.

Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear-- WWI nurse with psychology training becomes detective. Murders but little gore. Best to read in order because of relationships. 1920’s Britain.
