The God of the Woods was so good because it was compelling but also SO well written especially for a mystery/thriller type novel. I have Long Bright River now to look forward to !!
I am an insta-buy reader for Liz Moore, so I was already excited. When I saw it was nearly 500 pages, I was super nervous! I am not a long book reader! But I flew through that thing in 2 days, so anyone nervous about its length, fear not! The chapters are broken up so well, and the narrative moves so quickly, you will not notice its length.
I’ve been reading God of the Woods for weeks—the switching POV every 3 pages is actually making me put it down (not get hooked!) It’s like scrolling TikTok. I’ll let you know what I think when I finish
I'm eager to read this new book by Liz Moore, and wanted to add The Unseen World to anyone's list of exceptional and really sophisticated novels. While you're puzzled by God of the Woods' exclusion from the NYT list, I've long been bewildered that The Unseen World wasn't on everybody's list when it came out a few years ago. It's incredible.
"in a narrative that includes long-kept family secrets (my favorite phrase in a novel’s description)"
SAMESIES! —Mel
I think you two will really love this one because of the ... strong sense of place. I grew up in the area the book is set in and she really nails it.
If you ever want a listicle of upstate NY books, please let me know.

She is just SO GOOD. Enjoy Long Bright River.
Long Bright River is one of my favs! Also wrote The Unseen World which has just as compelling character and family dynamics and is a little sci-fi.

I really am just so impressed with how many perspectives and timelines she managed.
Totally agree - the best book I’ve read this summer! Excited to pick up her previous works next.
Enjoy the backlist.

Interesting. I was super impressed with how she kept them all straight and distinct while still moving the plot forward.
Thanks for the recommendations, I just requested The God of the Woods from my library. And there is a waiting list, that’s usually a good sign.
Enjoy! Hope the wait list isn't too long.
I 100% agree with your book of the summer assessment!
SOOOO GOOD.
