Gary Janetti's latest collection, We Are Experiencing a Slight Delay, includes a wonderful essay about Dame Maggie Smith. Thanks for these recommendations!

These are great. I wanted to add that Lady Randolph Churchill was one of those heiresses and even though she did not marry a duke, she had a lot of impact and was one of the many women attached to Prince Albert so she'd have fit right in. I read a biography of her years ago: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1266139.Jennie

Thank you for mentioning Sister Act. My husband and I were discussing her major film roles and he was quite insistent that she was in The Blues Brothers. I knew that wasn’t the case, but I see now why he was confused.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm familiar with Dame Maggie Smith from both her theater work--though I never had the privilege of seeing her act, I knew of her reputation--and Downton Abbey. My daughter texted me about her death. Then my husband surprised us both by saying he didn't have any idea who she was! Sigh.
