I love capers so thanks for this! And after running a national art consulting company for 3 decades before I quit to become a novelist, art capers are my favorite kind. You're the second person to recommend The Art Thief and The House Keepers also looks great. Off to the library!
I chomp my way, shark-like, through so many books, and can totally adore them and then forget them almost immediately; but some stick with me, like this unique take on art forgery and psychic time travel and personality and identity and-- I’m realizing how undefinable (and memorable) the story is, as I fail to describe it. Also, it’s a great intro to Velasquez. Do you know it? THE FORGERY OF VENUS by Michael Gruber: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/2641587
Switching media, if you’re down for a really long (as in 80 mindblowing and addictive episodes) and gorgeously woven heist series, check out Money Heist on Netflix.
One of my favorite heist books is an oldie but a goodie - The Palace Guard by Charlotte MacLeod. It pokes fun at the Isabella Stuart Gardner museum with another Boston museum that’s even more over the top, and since MacLeod is the queen of the zany mystery it’s got many wacky and wonderful moments (and characters).
The way I ran to this post! I LOVE HEISTS! Truly, it's one of the keywords that will make me pick up any form of media. I just grabbed a review copy of The Frame-Up by Gwenda Bond, which looks like a heist/romance/mystery/family drama all in one, and I can't wait to read that! I also have The Art Thief on my list and will move it up!
I first read as “you love capers” and because it’s Monday morning, I was expecting cookbooks 😂 great roundup, thanks, Elizabeth!
I like those capers too!
😂😂😂
Me too! I immediately thought "I love capers". I also love heist books (and films) so all is well.
Ha ha!

Any recommendations?!
Lesson in Red and Still Lives by Maria Hummel, Woman on Fire by Lisa Barr, The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro

I need to consider if I can commit to that.

Have not heard of this one. I will check it out.
Thank you! Just finished The Art Thief and will never again experience a museum/archives/gallery without thinking about it! and so well written.
Same! Also about how there is probs no security there.

I'm looking forward to that one.
What a great idea for a theme, Elizabeth! So good.
One last job!
I love the emails, wish they were daily.
Thanks again.
This made my day. Thanks!
