A celebration of rom-coms? SOLD! I can’t pick a favorite, but I watched When Harry Met Sally for the first time last year and I can’t believe I went so long without it.

Laura Hankin has a book coming out later this year that's kinda When Harry Met Sallly meets Four Weddings and a Funeral? The two best friends of a couple keep getting thrown together.

Also, The Night of the Storm reminds me of that horror movie from a few years ago, Bodies Bodies Bodies, with a bunch of teens partying in a mansion to ride out a hurricane.

Thank you -- more books for me to check out. Two thoughts:

1) I love that you included a link to "up to 11", as I was just telling a friend the other day about this trope, someone who has never seen the movie.

2) Your reference to the book "Time for Dinner" reminded me of a book I bought way back in 1997 and still have: "What's for Dinner", by Maryana Vollstedt. It's related in that it's about good recipes that taste good and are easy to cook and with ingredients you probably already have on hand. The binding on my copy has long since fallen apart; I've used it many times.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that. I'll look for "What's for Dinner." I need all the help I can get here.

Some really good stuff here.

My favorite romcom of all time is Notting Hill, but a close second, which no one else ever mentions, is Excess Baggage, with Benicio Del Toro and Alicia Silverstone.

I rewatched Notting Hill recently and it's near perfect. There's a chapter in this book Four Weddings and a Funeral, which features a lot of the same cast and production team and I think is a spiritual predecesor to Notting Hill.

in my humble opinion, Four Weddings is the ideal, and Notting Hill was the try-hard follow-up-and-cash-in imitation...!

I think Scott Meslow would agree with you. (My issue is that when I want to watch a romcom I can't bring myself to rewatch the death + funeral scene. Crushing)

I hear you. That funeral is brutal. But the wedding speeches!!! And Mr Bean!!!! Glorious!!!

I LOVE a dark and stormy night—cannot wait to check that book out!

LMK what you think.

When it's dark and stormy I usually want something warm and fuzzy but this one sounded fun! Idea: what to read if you've been watching his years season of True Detective. It reminds me a little of a novel I read years ago by a Scandinavian author. I'm looking for the name now.

I'm not watching. I think it's too much for me.

Smylla's Sense of Snow, that was the name of the novel I was trying to remember. I notice lots of Nordic Noir out there now though.

Always need more books for this vibe!

As a huge Jenny R fan, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Time for Dinner! Guessing it’s backlist? The rom-com book is also definitely going on my TBR! Thanks, Elizabeth!
