Alice Winn got her start in fanfic (ao3) and her Drarry work is truly so beautiful and amazingly written. I’ve been a bit daunted to read In Memoriam but it’s on my list as I’m sure it’ll be beautiful and heartbreaking.
I am close to the end of In Memoriam and very invested in the outcome. (That’s putting it mildly). I’ve been listening to the audiobook and it’s excellent.
thanks for this, Elizabeth! I was just starting to dream up my summer vacation reading list (much more fun than the trips I had to make this morning to expedite my passport renewal, eek!) and added The Return of Ellie Black to it!
on a cruise! from north Jersey (so we don't have to fly) to the Caribbean. we'll see how it goes! I've never been on a cruise before, but I am very excited to sit on the balcony with a book and my coffee, then by the pool with a book and a drink!
Thank you for having an adult Summer Reading activity!
(strong feelings from childhood, when I was told it "wouldn't be fair" for me to participate in the local library summer reading contest, because I read so much already! of course now as an adult can fully appreciate how absurd that was, I mean, the athletes were always allowed to compete in their events...)
Hooray! I love Summer Reading Bingo season. It's so much fun to think about the possibilities for each of those appealing little boxes — even though SSoP means I can't usually play along.
Have you ever read the (old, old) YA novel Love is Like Peanuts by Betty Bates? (OMG I just googled and it's from 1980). I think it's probably objectively terrible? But I read it when I was 12, and I loved it. Whenever I think of summer reading, that book pops into my mind. This is an accurate (and snarky) recap of the plot: https://mondomolly.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/love-is-like-peanuts-by-betty-bates/ I desperately want to read it again, but also, I'm scared? I mean, I remember specific details so vividly and/but the romance now seems super cringe. The Internet Archive is really letting me down by not having it available.

I just placed 2 of the 3 on hold at my library,
and as always, thank you, Elizabeth, you are such a wonderful source of information.
