I’m a fan of Susan Orlean - I have The Library Book here on my shelf - but haven’t read The Orchid Thief! Putting it on my list now.

Also, the cosy mystery sounds amazing. I do love amateur sleuths. I generally prefer them to the professionals...maybe I’m out to recapture the feeling of reading Nancy Drew as a 12 year old lol

Aren't we all just trying to channel Nancy Drew?

I loved both The Orchid Thief AND The Library Book. The latter is also a way to discover LA or parts of the city you've never known.

The Orchid Thief is now on my list 📚 Great interview with Leigh! Also: have you read the Helen DeWitt novella ‘The English Understand Wool’? So good, Elizabeth!

Oh yeah, it's totally mystery season. The Orchid Thief sounds like a great real-life one! Brain Lair books here in South Bend has some really good seasonal curated collections from the staff, and they feature a lot of Black and Indigenous literature and non-fiction. You'll have to see it :)

Can we go when I visit?!

Absolutely!!!! My little neighbor's best friend works there, so maybe we can catch them on their shift.

Will Gardner was a good choice. But the fictional death I will never get over is Helen Clyde Lynley in Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series. Tommy has never been the same, and I can't read them anymore.

It is wild that you included a book by Zac Bissonnette today. I just started his book on the Beanie Baby craze of the late 90s!

Did you find The Starter Wife as good as or to be similar in any way to Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow? When I read your review (and thank you for that - I'll be checking it out) I thought of TT&T.
