Can’t wait to read this one. It sounds absolutely amazing!
As for finding the right book at the right time, it happened to me with Little Women, which was given to me by my sweet grandma. She was the one who taught me to read.
What a great concept for a book and I really enjoyed the conversation about interstitials. I've always enjoyed that technique as a reader but never knew the name for it/them. I'm looking forward to checking it out.
What a great introduction to Gretchen Anthony. Thank you! I've found so many books have turned up at the right time for me, but probably the most recent was Remarkably Bright Creatures, by debut author Shelby Van Pelt. It's a novel that deals with harsh realities, but it is nonetheless suffused with joy, and this spring, in the midst of a lot of stuff going on in the world that tried to extinguish joy, it was the perfect spoonful of sugar.
I'm currently working in corporate comms and this is so inspiring! So true that it teaches you how to write in different voices, but one downside is that because you spend so long tuning your style to your clients', it can take some time to find your own unique voice -- for me at least! Great interview :)
A book that came to me at the right time was Mary Gauthier's Saved By A Song, which I started just before and finished just after going to folk music camp this summer (and where I collaborated on writing my first song)!
I would love to read this book. Finding a right book at right time, happens very rarely, but when it does, honestly the best feeling. I think for me that would be reading Hobbit last year. I have had the LOTR series and Hobbit forever on my shelf but each year I make elaborate plans to read them and never implement them. Last year in October, I was in slump and not a single book was hitting the mark. I just randomly opened Hobbit, and read the first few pages, and that was it. I binged read it in 2 days and honestly it was everything I needed at that time!
What a great interview! Margaret Renkl's "Late Migrations" found me at the right time (multiple times). It quickly became my favorite book--such a treasure.

As for finding the right book at the right time, sometimes the book finds you. I wrote about the books that found me when my dad died and how they helped me in those early, tough weeks: https://elizabethmarro.substack.com/p/the-right-book-at-the-right-time
The Four Winds came along when I needed a reminder of how important the mother/daughter relationship is!

I'm in corporate comms too!
A book that I found at the right time was The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by
Eckhart Tolle. It taught me a lot about living in the moment.
I’m super excited for this book and can’t wait to read! Thank you for sharing!
Loved this interview, thank you!

I could have chatted with you all afternoon, Elizabeth. Thank you for a great interview, and a great newsletter!
