I've just discovered Wordle. I love it. Part of me wishes that there was more than one word a day and part of me is relieved, from a time management point of view, that there isn't!

Commenting to echo the suggestion of S.A. Chakraborty's Daevabad Trilogy! These were recommended to me by two friends, a mother-daughter pair in their early forties/late teens-- the world-building is truly transportive and immersive. I particularly like the depiction of Ali, who is a young, extremely committed Muslim. Writing religious characters with depth and sensitivity is challenging, and Chakraborty nails it.

Yes! I thought the same thing. Ali does not come off as dangerously extremist or brainwashed (to the reader, sorta to the characters), just deeply committed. There's a difference, and Chakraborty totally got it right.

I've had Word Freak on my shelf for years, and you're totally right—now may be the perfect time for me to pick it up!

I've been curious about Dava Shastri's Last Day--it keeps popping up on my Kindle. Thx for the review and thanks also for Word Freak. I have some highly competitive Scrabble players in my family. It will be a great birthday present. Finally, I love the lyrics to the bookstore recording you shared!

Okay, I just jumped on the Wordle bandwagon after this prompt. How fun! There was a time my spouse and I were obsessed with Lingo on the Game Show Network. Another fantastic word/language book is Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries by Kory Stamper.
